Georges
Auguste was born in Oran, Algeria in 1949. He graduated
in 1973 from the Ecole Supérieure d'Electricité
in Paris with an engineering degree.
Auguste started his career in the Semiconductor Industry as a
technical manager at the manufacturing site of Philips Composants
located in Caen, France. Over the next decade, he advanced his
career by accepting increasingly important roles in production
management within the Company. During this period, he also obtained
the diploma of the "Institut d'Administration des Entreprises"
(Institute of Business Administration).
He left Philips Composants in 1986 to join a predecessor company
to STMicroelectronics as head of production in a new integrated
circuit (IC) manufacturing facility in Nancy, France. Two years
later, Auguste was promoted to General Manager of the plant.
In 1990, Auguste was appointed Managing Director of ST in Morocco
where he brought performance levels to the same high standard
as the Company’s other back-end plants, while expanding
the output of the two factories in Ain Sebaa and Bouskoura.
Since 1993, environmental protection has been a key mission in
the business policy of STMicroelectronics, and in 1997, following
his successes in Morocco, Auguste was appointed Director of the
Total Quality and Environment Group.
In 1999, Auguste was promoted to Corporate Vice President, Director
of Total Quality and Environmental Management (TQEM), to spearhead
the organization responsible for the implementation of ST’s
ambitious goals in environment and quality. This challenging role
involves the incorporation of the ecological culture into Company
management to reduce the consumption of natural resources in manufacturing
processes, and to achieve environmental neutrality by 2010.
Since 2005, Auguste’s mission has been enlarged to cover
the coordination of ST’s corporate responsibility strategy,
encompassing social, ethical and environmental aspects. As Corporate
Vice President, Director of Total Quality and Corporate Responsibility,
Auguste plays a pivotal role in the Company’s achievements,
both in terms of customer satisfaction through his leadership
in quality programs, and in terms of a wider stakeholder satisfaction
through the integration of corporate responsibility.
In January 2008, the Company expanded Auguste’s charter
by assigning him responsibility for STUniversity, where ST shares
its culture and expertise among employees.
Auguste is a member of ST’s Executive Committee, comprised
of ten senior corporate executives in addition to the COO and
the CEO.
