Dear Reader,

In 1998 the dynamic telecommunications market represented some 25% of ST's total sales &emdash; driven on the one hand by mobile telephony and on the other by fast internet access. The predicted growth of these two applications alone is 20% by the year 2003 and ST aims to continuously improve its position in this market segment.

ST is a leading supplier of ASIC solutions for the Telecom market and thanks to the Company's broad range of advanced technologies such as high density CMOS, CMOS for non-volatile memories and BiCMOS (Bipolar and CMOS on the same chip) ST is able to design complete system solutions on silicon. Many major telecommunications equipment manufacturers have chosen ST as a strategic partner in developing their products.

Complementing this unique ASIC offering, ST also offers leading edge standard products such as Flash and EEPROM memories, protection and linear devices, as well as standard telecom chipsets.
