TSM101 and TSM103 : the VOLTAGE PRECISION
and CURRENT CONTROL
in BATTERY CHARGERS and ADAPTERS

The TSM101 is a space saving device integrating two operational amplifiers with ORed output, a high stability series band gap voltage reference and a current source. This means that only one circuit is required instead of four, bringing a valuable cost reduction. This IC compares the DC voltage and the current level at the output of the switching power supply to an internal reference.

It provides a feedback through an optocoupler to the PWM Controller IC in primary side.

With its integrated serial 1.24V voltage reference, the TSM101 was designed to be used in battery chargers or adapters with a constant voltage and a limited output current. Moreover, a current generator allows trickle charging.

More general purpose oriented, the TSM103 includes two op-amps (LM358) with independent outputs and a fixed voltage reference (TL431 with 1-0.4% precision) which is internally connected to the non-inverting input of one of the two operational amplifiers.

Thanks to this configuration, the TSM103 offers great reliability: one op-amp is used for the voltage control while the other is dedicated to the current control. In addition due to the output independence, the same device can be used in many high precision applications such as window comparators, temperature sensors or fan control, and any application where space and cost saving are required.
