NEW GENERATION LOW VOLTAGE MOSFETs ![]() After the introduction of the STripFET low voltage MOSFETs four years ago, a new generation is now being industrialized. The new series comes with more sophisticated techniques to minimize on-resistance per unit area. Most of today's switching applications also require optimization in terms of lower input capacitance and gate charge. Such requirements are dictated by the necessity to boost efficiency in DC-DC converters such as those in motherboards, telecom equipment and portable computers. These requirements become even more stringent when voltages as low as 1.8V or lower are to be efficiently generated. To cope with such needs ST has introduced the lowest on-resistance product ever, the STV160NF03L. With 1.6½ (typical) and thanks to the versatile PowerSO-10 package, it is the perfect solution for high power and high frequency applications. The dynamic telecommunications market is a prime application area, but the STV160NF03L is also suitable for the converters now emerging that will power the next generation of high-performance microprocessors. The same optimized layout is used both for the STB70NF03L and the STB36NF03L in high volume motherboard applications. These 30V products are now complemented by the new 100V and 150V series that are ideal for use as primary switches in isolated forward converters. They too, exhibit low gate charge and input capacitance in addition to low on-resistance. ![]() |
