INNOVATIVE ASD DIODE ARRAY TO PROTECT SET-TOP BOX SENSITIVE LINES ST's latest addition to its Application Specific Discretes (ASD ) range, the DALC112S1, offers significant reliability and protection advantages over competitive products. It provides an innovative solution for protection of sensitive lines against destructive ESD transients. This is particularly true in the case of digital set-top box connections, where many plugs are used. Ideally suited for the SCART plug, the low capacitance (less than 5pF) diode array contains 12 diodes configured as six cells of two series-connected diodes. These are used to clamp up to six signals to the Vcc rail, thereby protecting against damage caused by voltage transients. ![]() Housed in a compact surface mounting SO-8 package for optimized PCB, the device is well-suited for video and audio applications, Red, Green, Blue, and Slow and Fast blanking signals. Very low leakage current (less than 2µA at 15V) affords excellent protection of the electronic functions and undesirable cross-talk is avoided. Thanks to the very low capacitance, the DALC112S1 complies with IEC1000-4-2 up to ESD level 3 for fast data lines. It is also highly recommended for protection in IEEE1284 and IEEE1394 without attenuation or distortion of the signal. In addition to the DALC112S1, ST has a full range of ESD Arrays for 5V and 12V bi-directional signals which comply fully with IEC1000-4-2 up to ESD level 4. By combining DALC112S1 and ESD array devices all set-top box plugs (SCART, IEEE1284 and RS232) can be totally ESD protected. For all set-top box functions, ST can offer a full range of protection for the MODEM line. Either through discrete solutions:
